The Office of Student Government hosted the 2015 Relay For Life fundraiser at Kean University on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 8:00 PM to 2:00 AM in the Harwood Arena.

The American Cancer Society sponsored the Relay For Life event, which helps raise funds for cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and raise awareness about the disease. The signature fundraiser helps fourteen million cancer survivors each year.

According to Relayforlife.org, each year, “more than four million people in over twenty countries raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer through the Relay for Life movement.”

Student Organization and Graduate and Part Time Student Council brought Kean University students, families and groups together to help fund for cancer research. This year, Student Government encouraged students to release their inner favorite superhero’s power to fight against cancer.

Senior Brianna Bonds, a Communication Studies major, represented Team Superman. She was the team captain and had four official members on her team.

“First and foremost, Relay for Life helps cancer research, which is a reward in itself. This is especially true for those who have loved ones who have cancer or were lost to it. Those who participate can also gain volunteer experience and a good piece for their resume. It’s an event that also promises a good time with food and activities,” said Bonds.

At the event, the teams took turns walking around the track to raise money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society in the world’s largest movement to end cancer.

Team Superman goal was to raise $500 to donate to The American Cancer Society, so far the team has raised $195.

The Kean community can join in and participate in donating by signing up, and supporting their favorite team at http://main.acsevents.org/goto/flyteamsuperman
